Early Access Review
The game was pretty fun, up until the recent Companion update which added a gacha mechanic in the form of companions/pets that have different effects to them, like adding stats or letting you access the storage from anywhere. This would normally be fine, except that the dev made the hardest to get pet have an insane effect that affects multiple aspects of the game and would provide a huge boost to anyone who gets it.

Now when first added in this it had a maximum chance of 0.84% of getting it, that was at Tier 5, the max tier. Problem is, those tiers while they raise the chances of getting better pets, they also increase the costs of each roll. Now the dev has updated the game to change it some, now if you don't get this pet in 200 rolls you are guaranteed to get it.

However you only get 1 ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ a week, which means it would take you almost 4 years to get this pet as a free player since you don't get ANY of the premium currency needed to roll these for free. And in order to buy it you need to spend up to $512 to get the guarantee. This is how it breaks down:

Tier 1 is 100 Pet Crystals x 5 rolls = 500 Crystals
Tier 2 is 120 Pet Crystals x 8 rolls = 960 Crystals
Tier 3 is 150 Pet Crystals x 10 rolls = 1,500 Crystals
Tier 4 is 180 Pet Crystals x 15 rolls = 2,700 Crystals
So 5,660 Crystals to get to the max tier of Tier 5 using 38 rolls.
Its 200 rolls to get the guaranteed pet. So another 162 rolls at Tier 5 which is 250 each. 162 x 250 = 40,500
40,500 + 5,660 = 46,160 Crystals total to get the pet (you "MAY" get it before that if you get lucky, this is if you don't)
To get those crystals you need to buy them,
$44.99 for 4,100 crystals x 11 = 45,100
$5.99 for 400 x 3 = 1,200 to get the needed amount plus a little extra (closest + cheapest possible combination).
$44.99 x 11 = $494.89 + $5.99 x 3 = $17.97 = $512.86 total to get the pet.

So you either wait nearly 4 years to get it (also dev has said there will be a rotation eventually so probably be more than 4 years if the game is even around that long), or you spend over $500 to get it. That was the dev's solution to the problem. Not only that, but he ignored the people who rightfully complained about this and just tries to claim that he must be right because more players are playing than ever. However if you look at the actual stats, the number of players has dropped from a month ago because of this issue. And the number of negative reviews reflects that. It's fine to make money off a game, but charging over $500 for a pet is just ridiculous.

Because of the devs decision to double down and refuse to admit his mistake, I cannot recommend this game to anyone. There is a very high chance that you will end up wasting a lot of money as the dev adds more and more extremely expensive pay to win mechanics to the game.

Hey gamer,
Now that some time has passed, I wanted to say this personally: I'm sorry for the frustration companions caused. At the time, with all the backlash, it was tough for me to respond properly...

Since then, I've been hard at work making things better:
• Pets can now be traded and duplicated — when you trade your Doot to a friend, you keep yours and they get one too! You both end up with one!
• Much of Doot's bonus is now given to everyone, free or paid, through a new bonus added to The Hole in World 5.
• All future companions only give simple stat bonuses, nothing gameplay-changing like Doot did.
• Guarantees for the rarest companions were lowered from 200 pulls to just 20.
• Major content updates — new classes, World 6, clicker mini-modes — continue to be free, not paid DLC.

If that's not something you care about anymore, I understand.
But if you can respect the effort I've put in over the past two years, and the real changes I've made to fix things, I'd really appreciate a changed review.
Either way, I hope my work has been a net positive in your life, and I’ll keep working hard to make IdleOn the best it can be!
