The most fun I've had in a multiplayer shooter in years. There's something for everyone here, whether you're a K/D fiend, a support, a vehicle user or someone who stands back and recons. There are ways to play no matter your skill or speed that you can still have a significant effect on the...battlefield. It is a spectacle on the graphics and audio side. The game balance, despite gripes, is surprisingly fair. A great time alone, or with friends. 9/10

Closer to a remake than a remaster. Really good upgrade in graphics, character models and expressions. Combat has significant improvements but it still leaves a bit to be desired. Still, can't recommend it enough, a very well made remaster.

The Good:
Looks amazing, runs very well, amazingly deep combat, tons of exploration, tons of funny and interesting adventures to be had, tons of interesting creatures, mechanics, scenic visuals, music etc.

The Bad:
Too much exploration, the story pacing is very slow and sporatic, the wide open areas with monotonous map completion stuff severly impact the flow of the story and will sidetrack you for 10+ hours at each location before getting back to the main journey.
Too many mini-games - by the end of the game, there are dozens of mini-games, which if you're trying to 100% the game, are simply frustrating with how many different mechanics you have to master (Some are actually quite hard).

For fans of the original, the tone of the remake/rebirth drops the ball on several occasions. Reactions to certain emotionally heavy events in Rebirth are not handled with the same weight or writing. Sephiroth is also no longer a mysterious and ominous figure, instead appearing quite often, running his mouth, then running away.

Despite it all, it's still a great time. And well worth the price of entry.

Runs maxed out 1440p on a 4070ti no problems.

A casual, simple, yet deep deck builder that can keep you going "just one more run" for hours. A real gem that innovates and creates a fresh experience. 5/5!

Early Access Review
About 15 hours in, my thoughts.

Things I like:
  • Controller support and couch co-op are nice and easy to use.
Pretty good variety of abilities and characters.
  • Gameplay is solid, encountered no bugs or glitches so far.
  • Enemy teams each feel unique and interesting.

    Things I don't like:

  • Even after the update the amount of rubber you get still feels too low. I'd say add maybe 25% more, especially if they add more unlockables in the future.
  • Some abilities don't feel impactful, time slow in particular, I thought it would slow the enemy team to give advantage but it slows everything including the user and the puck so I don't know what you gain from it.
  • Some of the achievements are very grindy.

    Things I'd like to see:

  • I'd love to see the ability to customize team color, name and emblem.
  • I'd also love for huge checks to be added, as a player I found myself always trying for a huge crunching check, but never got it. Maybe if your checking is 100+ and you make contact at speed have it break glass or knock them down for 25% longer with a big crunch or something. But that was big thing for me at least, the checking was not as satisfying as it could be. (The knights are my favorite fight simply because it's so satisfying clocking the prince)
  • On that topic fights would be cool.
  • Breaking glass in general should happen more often, I only once saw the glass break from a slapshot in my whole 15 hours.
  • Some variety in the matches themselves, commercial breaks, crowd cams, bench cams, reactions, locker room, etc.
    Maybe a commenter
  • The ability to customize your teammates look.

All in all it's a good game. It's nice to finally see a decent hockey game on steam. I almost regret playing early access so much even though I had fun with it because I think with some more work it'll really be a blast.

No microtransactions, no 3rd party installer, no preorder bonus, no early accesss, no buggy mess, for ONCE a COMPLETE, solid game that doesn't take itself too seriously. Reminds me of games from the early 2000's. Smooth gameplay, surprisingly deep combat. Actually funny humor, not just surface cringe lines. Honestly a refreshing gem out of nowhere. Can't believe they didn't advertise, and only charged $30.

Just get it, and show there is still a market for real games.
