This mod is truly bizarre. I don't know to which gods these devs sacrificed their first-born to make this work the way it does, but I'm here for it. Oh, and it's not even feature-complete yet. How's that for a free mod.

Chivalry was the first game of which I knew I'd spend thousands of hours playing it before it was even released. The game more than delivered on what I expected from it, as I had been looking for a melee combat game with this balance between intuitive, free-flowing fighting and believable feedback/weight from attacks (spinning is another topic).

Mirage never did anything like that for me. Honestly, I don't even think Torn Banner understood just how much Chivalry's veterans appreciated their game and the specific mechanics that made it great. Mirage doesn't seem to provide its players with nearly as much room for growth as Chivalry did. Secondly, pretty much every encounter in had in that game felt unique, with unique ways you'd have to deal with your opponents in that particular situation. Mirage's core gameplay makes it very hard for fights not to feel extremely repetitive if you compare it with good ol' chiv.

Another, very simple reason Mirage's announcement didn't catch my attention very well was the ongoing development of Project Slasher that I was following, which was able to bring back the same hype I felt in 2012. It was literally the obvious next step for the first person slasher genre to take.

However, if you look at Mirage as its own separate game, instead of the failed successor a lot of people see it as, it actually has some good things to offer. When I first played the beta, I was instantly reminded of Dark Messiah of Might and Magic's multiplayer -a guilty pleasure of mine - but with a better melee combat system. It's extremely chaotic, which can be fun in its own regard. I will even say I like the aesthetics of Mirage. I've heard people had problems with it gameplay-wise, but I have not had any so far.

While Mirage will not get the same amount of hours from me as it's predecessor did, I understand that it's a different game that I can enjoy for different reasons.

TL;DR: Mordhau when
