Girls are now brawling
At $13 Canadian for a mechanically simple character action game with roguelite elements, it can be fairly easy to dismiss if you aren't already invested in Touhou Project, of which this game is a fan production of.

However, the game really knows how to pace itself with its simplicity, as you have yourself a solid mix of melee action brawling and dodging of bullet hell patterns, and the game never really feels like it's using its randomizer to make up for a lack of substance. While it is a fairly short game even accounting for five unlockable difficulties and four playable characters, I've always found myself coming back for more whenever I'm in that"I don't know what to play" mood, cuz the way Youmu, Mokou, Flandre, and Marisa control are really that satisfying to go through a run or three.

With that said though, i do have some complaints about it. I think the biggest one for me is that the parrying mechanic could do with something of a rework, since it's pretty unintuitive to try and time a charge attack (hold attack button to commit to it), and being a game about dodging danmaku, it's often always better to time your dashes. Another one that I think is more something that could be in a QOL update would be to have UI indicators for off-screen attacks, so as to give the player enough warning to press the dodge button before getting backstabbed.

A third and honestly very minor complaint is how the alternate costumes are just "school uniform". While it looks fine on Flandre and passable on Youmu, Marisa's alt costume is very ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ bland.

As far as video performance is concerned, you'll need at the bare minimum a current entry-level graphics card. This section of the review has been revised on Halloween of 2025, and I can report that when playing @ 900p on medium, the game's performance has some minor dips on the Ryzen 8600G's onboard graphics, and while you CAN limit the FPS on an nVidia GPU, Radeon Chill still suffers from runaway FPS on the startup graphics. I had the game crash on me near the end of a run, and had a failed startup when trying to start a new run. I don't think I can recommend playing this game on handheld devices.

P.S.: Can Saki Kurokoma and/or Kogasa Tatara be playable characters in future DLC?

Edited my review, since I'd say my TV box is roughly the equivalent of a non-portable Steam Deck running Windows. Sorry, Steam Deck users!

To append to this review, I think this game needs more Kogasa and Saki.
