I clicked on a deformed Evangelion Shinji background, and was greeted by a horrific series of noises meant to resemble the evangelion theme. This is the best $4 I have ever spent.

CS:GO Review
I can't play any more Dust 2, my life force was being sapped. Reccomend if you need to slim down your life force.

I was instantly drawn to this game, more than a year before it released, when I saw its art style, and the combat looked right up my alley as well. I can say with certainty that it was worth the wait.

Combat is timing-based, and depending on what weapon you're using timing will change, as will the damage per swing. Some enemies may be fast enough that certain types of weapons won't land a hit, so you'd better be able to think on your feet. As for weapons, there are a LOT of them, with decent variety in playstyle. There is also a crafting system for health items, fire jars, temporary speed, and other such powerups, giving you good reason to seek out all the little pick-up-ables that can be found amoungst pots, jars, and crates.

The world is *large*, open, and PACKED with locked doors and little dungeons. Definitely in the "Metroid-vania" genre. As a completionist, I'm wondering how in the world I'll finish this game, with those tantalizing little "X-out-of-Z chests unlocked" indicators teasing me - so many locked doors to remember to open.

The hub world is interesting, having a group of "police" that you'll need to avoid whilst you lock-pick into merchant's houses in search of loot, or try to take that tempting little statue. You'll want to run and hide until your alert meter cools off if you're seen being a trouble maker, lest you be first warned with a fine of 20 gold, then straight up executed if you're caught again not long after.

Boss fights are satisfying, music is fitting, story is fun. Fair disclaimer though, I'm not finished yet, so I can't say if I like the ending.

If I have one complaint about the game itself, it might be that the voice acting is perhaps the only thing not fully fitting with the style (it's not BAD, it's just not as "Greek" feeling as the rest of the game is), as it might be more enjoyable to just have text bubbles and imagine the voices. Still, the speaking is good for the lazy who prefer not to read.

The other complaint I have, though not down to the game itself, and more about the programming, is that this game seems to be a bit more intensive than it should be, and feels just a bit laggy, despite being a 2D platformer type of game. Perhaps it wouldn't be an issue if I weren't playing on an iMac, but Bioshock Infinite didn't complain too badly.

Overall, this game is a solid 9/10 for me; certainly one of the best 2D games I've ever played.

++++++++++++++++++++

Edit: I'm about halfway through the game now at 23 hours in. I'm going pretty completionist, so I'm getting all the chests and such. I have to say, the sheer number of weapons, items, powerups, etc is nuts. Boss fights have been very fun, particularly Artimis. The voice acting bothers me less now, seems to be the case that a few early voices just sounded weird to me.

Really looking forward to seeing how the endgame plays out. Game is still a solid 9/10.

++++++++++++++++++++

Game is complete, 100%, all achievements, guards kneel and weep before me, etc, etc. Game is ok, 1/10

Pfft. 9/10. Almost leaning 8/10 for the all the lag I got playing a 2D game, even on an imac, but I really can't fault the whole game for a bit of optimization problems. Only real complaint I have looking back is that you end up with 1,000 weapons, but you really only want to use like 4 of them, and the rest start to feel like fluff.

I absolutly loved this game, perhaps more than even giants like Bioshock Infinite, when measured minute-for-minute, or hour-for-hour.

The art is fantastic, and music/sound fits with it perfectly. That alone is almost enough to be worth a favorable review of this game, with so many "game that isn't really a game" things coming out lately.

On top of the amazing look and feel of the game, the gameplay itself is FUN! Rather than just being a Mario-platformer with some enemies to jump-squish, this right-to-left platformer employs puzzles that are not only challenging enough to be enjoyable, but which also add to the "feel" of the game. Particularly the stuff with the spider, easilly some of the best stuff in the game.

Now, it's not an exceptionally long game (assuming you don't use/watch a walkthrough, it's maybe 3-5 hrs), HOWEVER, assuming you get it at five-ish dollars that's really no cause for complaint. That is, perhaps, the game's main but very minor flaw: simply that you're left wanting a bit more of it, like the last piece of a Delicious and Moist Cake. Yet that's far preferable to playing into the relm of boredom and having it feel like beating the game is a chore. In case the reference wasn't obvious enough, think Portal 1, and you get the idea of how this game feels upon completion.

All in all, I'd give this game a 9/10. It's not 100% perfect, but it's pretty darn close.

Story and atmosphere are amazing, and gameplay is reasonably fun, if perhaps a little unballenced (i.e. you'll go through it reasonably easilly for most of the game, even on the 1999 mode, except for 2 "boss battles" and whenever you encounter a handyman, which is when you'll rage).

Despite some picky percieved gameplay flaws, this game is highly reccomended.

If it's not already obvious, you should play this game.
