Please Ppl, see he scammer trick now used? The URL would otherwise be filtered out.
How would one, hypothetically cure themselves?
I myself for example am cured. However i do have to watch out for signs of relapse all my life, can't escape that (not yet at least). & for me it's not only depression, for me there also are Traumatisations, Co-Dependancy, addictions to substances and behaviors. Likewise, for other Ppl there may be addictions to feelings like physical pain, drama, power. They all need more or less the same treatment (psycho-therapy) and the same vigilance there-after for the rest of my life.
The synapses have formed and will remain but that's not to say another set of synapses can't be formed to deal with the same types of circumstanses. In laymans terms: depression is an obsession, like OCD, kleptomania, trauma, addiction, or..... denial there-of. One has to change the mindset.
Changing the mindset takes hard work and perseverance, it's not as easy as changing OS settings for a computer. But simmilar: one needs to have a good understanding of the psyche & behavioral patterns like one needs to have an understanding of computing & Internet otherwise new settings may clash and/or be risky. Some form of Psycho-therapy is strongly advised.
Indeed with depression or addiction it's often more difficult to push trough. With traumatisation alone, one usually is driven to change while depression or addiction keepes one lazy and reluctant. Quite often trauma, depression and/or addiction go hand in hand, each of them strengthening the line of feeling/thinking/acting that goes with the others. Debts can easely form such an obsessive disturbance as well, and believe it or not: some Ppl suffer the same becouse they think they have to much money! Also such an obsessive lifestile may invoke many stress-sytuations that also make it more dificult to persevere.
old-fashoned, desinterested and/or pre-assumptive professionals can often mistake the lazyness and reluctance created by the disease for real character traits. That's why many Ppl get to hear even from "honoust" professionals that they can't be cured. Boy are they wrong. That's the talk they learned from dishonoust authority figures who don't want the traumatisations they caused come to light (b.t.w., paranoia is non-existant in this light).
I myself owe my life to the Anonymous Twelve Step Twelve Traditions program. Derived from original AA, there nowadays are such self-help programs for any obsession. For most Ppl, the Program is free-of-charge aftercare. Aftercare that would be to time-consuming and expensive to be given by the clinics. I myself never had any proper clinical treatment. For Depression i followed an internet course and i spoke with that psychiatrist for only 15 minutes to get access to the course. No need to peak with that psychiatrist again. When i need to speak to some-one, i can go to a meeting or make a phone-call with my Fellows in the Program. No matter where i am in this World, there's always a meeting nearby and/or on the Internet.
No mental illness can be fully cured, but they can be coped with. You get better at dealing with them and knowing what may bring about symptoms, what to avoid and what not to avoid. One important thing to realize is one must always be in motion, can't stop and let a mental illness eat you alive, no matter how much you want to some days.
Genes or not, they can often still cope and find ways to live their lives. Plus you don't need to have a genetic problem to end up with a mental illness either. Albeit losing the genetic lottery does not help. That all being said I think there's always a healthy way of coping and living life, instead of just ending it all.
