Controller not working in Win Compatability Mode?
One of the supposed benefits of the steam controller is using it for games that have no original controller support. This should appeal directly to those of us who play older games or like to revisit them.

However, I noticed that when I booted up Disciples II, the controler didn't work at all. Maybe I need to set up the controls beforehand. But apparantly, I can't even get the steam over-lay to come up and I assume that means there isn't any communication between steam and this game at all!
I bought this game on steam, it is not a shortcut in my library. The only way to get this game to run on windows 7 (or anything past xp service pack 2 as far as I can tell) is to run it as admin in win compatability mode.

Can the steam controller work for games that must be run in compatability mode? Has anyone else seen this kind of problem with your older games? If the steam over-lay cannot work does that mean no steam controller support? And more importantly, is Valve aware of this and do they have any solutions or are they working on any?

Yeah, this is a bug where running in admin mode effectively stops the controller from working properly. Report this to Valve, hopefully they'll have a fix soon. The problem seems to stem from how Steam applies the bindings, they're essentially virtual, or emulated. The controller itself functions even while Steam is not running, or even completely outside of Windows (or any operating system) because it's actually an HID input device, with both keyboard and mouse function. But when Steam is running it changes to emulated devices, including all keyboard and mouse input.

And so when you run something in admin mode, it may refuse to accept input from virtual/emulated devices. That's why you can't click Windows' on-screen keyboards anymore (used to be able to without issue until this bug got introduced), and you can't click through a UAC prompt that pops up when you run a game in admin mode, etc.

The irony, of course, being that if you shut down Steam completely, you could then use the controller to play the game or click through that UAC prompt. So yeah, hopefully it's something Valve can get sussed out quickly because it can be quite annoying.

Nice, thanks for the reply. I guess I'll shoot them an e-mail. Anyone else who has seen this issue should as well, so they don't put this isuue too low on their priorities (I assume they have a huge list of issues they're dealing with).
