Suggestions for the Steam Machine and Steam Frame
I want to make some suggestions, I hope they reach Valve, although I think you already have plans for software, but who knows, maybe it will help!

It would be awesome if every Steam Machine and Steam Frame came with Half-Life 3 in the package! If the Half-Life rumors are true, that would be epic, explosive!

Other games could be announced for the future:

Left 4 Dead 3 (for Steam Frame/VR hardware as well)

Portal 3 (with GLADOS being a real AI, and with the same voice) (for Steam Frame/VR hardware as well)

Team Fortress 3 (for Steam Frame/VR hardware as well)

CS VR (a specific version of CS 2 for VR and Steam Frame)

DOTA 2 for VR

Remastering Half-Life 1 and Half-Life 2

Games from other companies as well, such as:

TitanFall 3

among others that Valve could promote!

It needs to be made explicit that the devices don't require a subscription to play online or save to the cloud!

And partner with EA and Ubisoft subscriptions, and anyone else who wants to offer subscriptions on the platform!

Regarding price:

Steam Machine: $400 to $500

Steam Frame: $500 to $600

Steam Controller: $50 to $60!

But it depends a lot on your costs, especially the Steam Frame! But I know you don't need to profit from the hardware or the retail hardware, which gives you hope!

If that were the real price they'd never be in stock they'd sell out so fast.
I'm hoping for the Steam Frame to have a reasonable price bc I really want VR and Meta is beyond horrible. The Controller I'll get for sure.
I just built a PC on Newegg that cost $550!

Since Valve doesn't assemble them in retail, they can get the parts much cheaper! Even for half the price!
And since building a PC paying for each part separately and paying retail fees makes it much more expensive, I believe the Steam Machines will be around $450 including the controller!

i think that even if they will have at least one cheap option (the 8gb ram version), im not sure they will go below 500, even if i would like that, and imo could be possible if they do what many chinese sellers do: sell their mini pcs without ram and ssd

im sure that if they did that, they could easily sell the new steam machines as low as 400 usd including the controller, and maybe even a bit less without it.

i hope they do that, and maybe make a deal with amazon to officially sell through their system, so they can reach other regions they are still not able to cover in steam store when selling hardware.

imo, the controller is more likely going to be closer to 100 usd, because the new technology seems to be of higher quality than other more common game controllers. imo, the controller is probably going to be at least 70 usd.

Yeah I think that could be a good option, I'd be open to that since I prefer using my own quality SSDs anyways but since they're targeting the console type market I don't think they'll do that.

I really wish they'd put them in retail tho because for me it'd be way more convenient to not have to buy it through Steam and deal with international shipping.

i think they are actually betting in the mini-pc enthusiasts and people second-guessing if wasting a fortune in a console, rather than in this "new" option (imo smarter, obv).

the reason i doubt they will offer the option to buy without ssd and or without ram, is because they probably made some deal with some hardware dev to be able to sell the new steam machines as cheap as possible

but is till think theres a chance they may eventually do offer it, if they begin to sell well enough, because thay could help reduce the amount of parts needed to provide more machines faster

Was just about to say the exact same thing

I believe they're targeting console gamers. Not so much PC gamers because we're already here

If they increase the vram and and had an option to buy a Steam machine without RAM and SSD, then I'd buy one. I also prefer to use my own SSD as well
I don't think they should be making half life games anymore. If anything steam should be focused on fixing the steam platform itself, it is simply not good enough I should be able to remove games from my library at will, I should be able to disable achievements when I game (what's steam doing with my data???), I should be able to remove anything I've bought in my buy history so that I don't have to look at people who Ive gifted things to, or mistakes ive made in buying old games that I don't want to think about. I hate how steam is becoming similar to all popular platforms, if anything steam became as popular as it is through being different than anything else on the market when it first started.

is a multimillion dollar business:
if they considered it make financial sense, they could do both things. they could make a new team, or ask some of their coders with experience (and without activist-sjw inclinations) to focus in making new games, and at the same time keep working in improving steam store.

they probably dont, because they are focusing most of their efforts in polishing steam os, and "iron out" bugs and issues, so the ecosystem they are trying to create finally works with as few issues as possible, because thats what will attract more sales.
if those were the prices, I would be very skeptical about the steam machine in terms of quality. This is not a handheld pc, like the Deck, but your average desktop tower. It the computer is around $800 it will be already cheap. You cannot buy a good gaming computer for price below $1200 at a budget price.

It is great you built a computer for US$550, but that is not happening. It will be great if it were those prices. I will be jumping on them, like millions of others, you see.
