6GHz won't work on the Legion Go S - Steam OS version until Valve fixes it.
Here's the issue I submitted:

https://github.com/ValveSoftware/SteamOS/issues/2214

The LeGo-S uses the MediaTek MT7922. The driver for that got a bunch of patches earlier this year to fix a lot of 6GHz issues (like correctly parsing an RNR for one). It looks like based on the source tree the version in SteamOS is VERY old - the latest commit I could find was 2023. This needs to be updated in order for this hardware to work as advertised.

It's interesting - Steam says "contact Lenovo", Lenovo says "We don't manage SteamOS." If Valve really wants to sell OS licenses to people (maybe they don't?) they need to fix this poor customer experience.

steam os is offered for free, so their business model in relation to their os isnt like windows or macos. valves makes profits from software sales in steam store, and their own hardware. whoever adopts their os, is doing so to avoid paying to microsoft.

if wifi works, but not at 6ghz, i think maybe is true that lenovo devs may need to do something before valve can address that issue.

if neither lenovo nor valve have addressed that issue, is probably because lenovo doesnt care enough, and valve has bigger fix to fry. i will guess that limitation will be solved at some point next year, specially if this is a driver related issue. another possibility is this issue must be solved by arch linux devs, and maybe the reason things are going slow is related to that.

6GHz works on 3.9 after you edit the following file:
sudo nano /etc/modprobe.d/wireless-regdom.conf

Add:
options cfg80211 ieee80211_regdom=XX

Where XX is your Region, I'm UK, so its 'GB'

May work for earlier versions?, dunno?, I'm on 3.9, so not tried it, but see no reason why it wouldn't?
