Again, some people are trying to gain your password by getting you to visit the Steam Community website. However, this time it is to do with trading - a feature which despite my own thoughts on it, is very appealing to some.

Take a look at this screenshot I got of a guy who added me to Steam and told me to visit this site:

A couple things to note:

• This website doesn't use SSL/TLS encryption, (https) which the official Steam Community website does.
  
• 'Steamummunity' (?) - easy to miss, harder to get your account back. Pay attention to what you're clicking on.
  
• Don't even click on it, you are allowing the potential for denial of service attack to your computer by connecting to the website and giving away your IP address as freely as clinics give away condoms.

Good day all, as always it's been a while since I've posted anything on here. But when I do it's gotta be important, right? Well, this kind of is becase as Facebook users; Facebook's privacy policy changes as of 1st January 2015, at which point I will stop using it.

Facebook's new privacy policy starts the minute you're drinking the bells into 2015, and it involvs a considerable amount of spying that seems to feed back directly to American governmental services (CIA, FBI and NSA etc).

Any device you use Facebook on (for me that two desktops, two laptops, a tablet and an iPhone) by accepting the new policy you are consenting to them to spy on the data held on any of these devices - from what I can understand. Not only this, but they are stating that it will openly be given up to the aforementioned bodies, possibly without even request. They seem to have Facebook wrapped around their little finger here..

Obviously, you do not want this at all and it is a betrayal of internet freedom. However, it does not come as a shock, as Facebook has a long and gloruous history of passing on data when the word is said.

I 100% fully recommend that you remove the Facebook app from any portable device you own, remove the Facebook website from your favorites, and close your account. I understand that it's tricky, and is going to be an uphill struggle. But eventually, you will get there and be less dependent on Facebook.

There are alternatives though! Get your friends to join up to https://seen.is - a free, secure social networking site with nobody handing your data over like a blatant spy. The site is growing all the time with lots of new members fleeing Facebook and looking for another way to waste time trawling through piles of meaningless ♥♥♥♥♥ ;)

Anyway, hope you are all well. My coursework/exam results came back today from first semester of uni, and I got Bs and Cs, so I'm fairly happy that I'm passing :P If you want to help our cause of protecting people from malicous hackers and corrupt governments then feel free to invite your friends list to join our cozy little group in the corner here :)

Good day. With the tracking and surveillance ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ of the last three or so years, it is important that we take back some control, especially while browsing the internet. Luckily for us, there are some devs out there who have made it simple.

Google tracks you by default. They send your IP Address amongst other things that can quite often uniquely identify you - to any website you click on that comes up in your search results. These websites build up a profile of you and sell it onto third parties, who then target advertising to you. Based on things you 'Like' on Facebook, or sites you regularly visit, they can begin to add more to your profile and easily find out things like your political stance, your annual income and much more. They can then use these to target things that you'll agree with, and are therefore more likely to click on and investigate.

DuckDuckGo [duckduckgo.com]
It's a search engine with a funny name. And who doesn't like things with 'duck' in the title. It offers a https/SSL connection by default, and does not store any information on you whatsoever. That is pretty much their privacy policy in a nutshell. You can search for things all you like and none of your information, search terms, IP address or anything will ever be sent on to the sites you click on. While it may not be as good as Google at what it does, 95% of the time you will find what you're looking for.

There are many web browsers to choose from. I'd say the majority of you use Chrome. You're totally right - it does run faster than Firefox. But with the vast reach of Google services already implanted in my daily digital life, I'd rather not sign into Google Chrome in order to access my cloud-stored bookmarks. It kinda defeats the purpose of using DuckDuckGo at all.
Firefox is the web browser that strives for an open web, free from surveillance. There are tools that help you stay private along the way, and are all available on Firefox. Here's the ones you should be installing to Firefox right away:

Disconnect [disconnect.me]
Firefox users - ever used Lightbeam? It shows you all third party sites that you are unknowingly connected to, and that could be gathering information on you. Disconnect stops you from even connecting to these sites in the first place - hence the name. This means that the only website you are using is the one you are looking at.

Another cool addon that will help your data that little bit safer. It forces your browser to connect to the HTTPS version of any website you visit, and tells you what is secure and what is not. This keeps your data safe as it passes through the internet and back.

DoNotTrackMe [www.abine.com[]
Those pesky trackers. They're like a mother; always want to know what you're doing, being really intrusive in your daily life and almost impossible to get rid of. DoNotTrackMe is another gem of an addon which blocks trackers these trackers completely. In other words, they cannot find out what videos you're watching on YouTube, what articles you read on a newspaper website or what online purchases you've made. The list could go on, but I think you get the idea.

With these tools, you are able to take back your privacy to some extent. This is not illegal, or frowned upon. It is actively enouraged, and I'd urge you all to tell your friends and family about these tools to stop these advertising companies from being so intrusive in our daily lives.

You may already be aware of a vulnerability in Mac OSX and iOS that was found around February 2014. This was a massive security flaw, and meant that SSL/encrypted connection could be bypassed.
Because there is no encryption. anybody snooping on your network using tools such as Wireshark will be able to see any data that passes from your computer to the internet. Including passwords

You may be aware of a pain in the ass known as Rick within the Steam Community. He is targeting Mac users who have not updated their systems. If he has chosen to watch you, he simply waits until you login to something - that could be Steam, Facebook, YouTube, and even your online bank website - and as soon as you enter your username and password, he has them.

Without SSL on major websites like these, it takes just a few people with minimal knowledge on hacking, to be able to gather every single one of your usernames and passwords.

The message here is UPDATE YOUR OPERATNG SYSTEM! They deploy updates for a reason: security fixes!
