Reporting Rule Breakers [Gathering Evidence]
If behaviour occurs on our servers that break our rules:
Screenshot or Record then Report

It makes it much easier to analyse and punish those involved if:
1. A member of Staff is not available
2. The issue stops upon Staff connecting (they don't see what happened)
3. The player(s) leave the server
4. (2 & 3) The player(s) avoid punishment or deny the offence(s)

If an issue is occuring, give a staff member evidence right away, this can save time as well as being able to deal with a situation in the appropriate manner to keep things fun and enjoyable.
If we cannot deal with the player(s) at the time an offence is occuring we can still give punishment afterwards if you collect and give us your evidence.
This means a more fun environment for everyone as the offence is less likely to occur again!

While we'd like for everyone on the servers to respect one another and abide by the rules while we're away, there are going to be troublemakers that pass through. That being said, knowing how to gather evidence and report any abuse is extremely helpful to us.

This discussion will give you all the information you need to gather the evidence we need to keep the server clean and enjoyable.

Gathering Evidence
If you're ever on the server and someone is continuously breaking our rules (despite being asked to stop), gathering evidence is a fantastic start. While we do trust our community, simply telling us "So-and-So is doing this!" does not give grounds for us to punish people, as it is not reliable evidence. Same goes to copy/pasting chat logs if someone is being disrespectful in chat.

So what makes good evidence?
  • Screenshots
  • Team Fortress 2 Demos
  • Steam Broadcasts
  • Monitor capture from an outside program (OBS, for example)
>>How to Take Screenshots

By default, the screenshot key for Team Fortress 2 is F5 or F12. If you're unsure, or think you may have re-bound the screenshot command to a different key, check in your keyboard options. Screenshots will be automatically saved to your computer. Upon closing TF2, if you've taken any screenshots, a window will appear showing the screenshots you've taken. Click "Show on disk" and it will bring up the folder where Steam stores your TF2 screenshots. Making a shortcut for this folder may be a good idea if you'd like to access this at a later time.

If you're needing to take a screenshot of something said some time ago in the text chat, simply open the chat and click away from the chat box. If you no longer see the blinking line, you can then take a screenshot of the chat. Repeat the process as many times as you need.

On our servers, we provide a plugin that tells you what spray belongs to which player by hovering your crosshair over the spray. Keep this in mind when taking a screenshot, as it can ensure that it belongs to the person you are reporting. Make sure no other sprays are over or under the spray in question to eliminate the risk of reporting the wrong person.

How to Record TF2 Demos

Team Fortress 2 has a built-in recording system in case you'd like to record your own gameplay. You can watch this video by NISLT to learn how.

(Note that you'll only need to know the first three minutes of this video to learn how to use the built-in recording feature.)

Steam Broadcasts

Recently, Steam has implemented a streaming feature, allowing you to invite a player to watch your game without them having to be in-game. This is incredibly useful if you think a player will cease what they're doing or leave when staff gets on.

To enable Broadcasting, just go to your Steam Settings and enable it to friends only or for anyone. Keep in mind that if you keep it to "Friends Only" that you'll have to be friends with that staff member you're trying to invite to your broadcast.

Using Third-Party Monitor Capture Programs

There are many recording programs out there than can record monitor activity, as well as gameplay or specific windows. A simple program to use is Open Broadcaster Software (OBS), which is free and safe to use.

Reporting Players to SourceBans
While alerting a staff member and passing them the evidence is a good move, we really want you guys to use our SourceBans reporting system, as well. You can report players here.[bhfcs.clanservers.com]

Simply fill in the required information and submit your report. The player will be immediately kicked once the form is submitted. Staff will review the report as soon as possible as decide if/what punishment is necessary from there.

Things to note:
  • If you can't submit a demo in any of the listed file types, feel free to let a staff member know and give them your gathered evidence.
  • Note that you do not have to give your REAL name; your Steam name will do just fine.
  • You do not need the player's ID and IP; only one of the two is needed. A player's SteamID is shown each time they enter or leave the server.
If you have any questions about filling out the SourceBans report form, feel free to ask a staff member.

How to send us your Evidence
While some of you may have a select few of the staff as friends on skype, we have two ways to report:
Sourcebans[bhfcs.clanservers.com]
Discord Channel![discord.gg]https://discord.gg/gaxpbea
You can use our Reporting section to quickly send us your screenshots or demos or you can right click any member of Staff to message them privately.

How Does This Help Us Help You?

By gathering evidence and reporting abusive players, it helps keep the server safe and enjoyable for everyone. We want players to come on and have a good time in a fun and friendly game environment. When you send us evidence or report players via SourceBans[bhfcs.clanservers.com], you're helping us keep Bobby's Community Servers fun and safe for everyone.

If you have any further questions about anything, feel free to ask the staff for help or comment below, we would be glad to answer any questions or inquiries you may have about the evidence itself or the rules the player is breaking.
