Parrying = ♥♥♥♥♥♥ duels?
I'd like to hear some... Opinions on this... I guess I'll start with my own!

It might sound weird since... Parrying is kinda only for the pro people who can utilize it (A tiny bit me) But I find it to ruin duels the moment someone lands them... I personally find long... On edge duels fun! And in my opinion... Parrying just ends a good duel too quickly... (This was the short version of the opinion...) Now let's her all of yer opinions c:

well it depends, in my case i try to use them when someone spams me with a dark sword, or when i have like 1 HP when all is almost lost so i can make a twist on the duel :D

but yeh, if someone lands you one when the combat just started it takes all the fun :/

Finally someone Who gets me... Hell most of my buds that play it... have this twisted opinion that "One shots" are amusing... Idfk how they got that opinion into their skulls but hell... it makes our duels last aproximately 10-20 seconds... before one of us lands a parry... Which makes it boring AF

yeh well, whats funny about spamming the parry button until by luck you hit with one? where are the sword hits and the fancy rolls? ): i have fun trying to predict my enemy's next movement and counter attacking him with other attack not just hitting once and winning/losing. I don't find much skill in that honestly...

I completely Agree with you... I went back to Ds2:SOTFS and I remembered why... it bothered me a bit... I forgot "Lag-Stabs" But oh well... It's atleast less of a gank fest than ds3

I don't particularly 100% disagree with this statement, but fishing for backstabs are also really lame. What if someone gets a parry on you but only does a weak attack? (as in, no Riposte) Would that make a difference in the battle?

I mostly just dislike one shot backstabs.. and the ones where you have about 10% hp left... which pretty much ruins the duel

I dont mind parrying, as long as they dont spam it

I can understand that opinion... yet I find it just to be boring to finish off duels too quickly... Which most parries end up causing c:

to me it seems as if parrying is somewhat of a crutch that players just use to end fights quickly, you dont have to be good at fighting to be good at parrying. however i can understand if some builds rely on parrying to be viable

i know its flashy and superficially impressive but damn when you think about it, it takes less skill than r1 spamming an estoc. when doing that at least you have to somewhat manage stamina and you're not quiet sure when to strike in anticipation. but with parrying, you know exactly when to strike, the only downside is that there is a big risk reward challenge

if you mess up your dead but if you dont then you've pretty much won, its kinda like flipping a coin but you can make the coin land on your side the more you practise

I can see yer point... it is pretty clear as well... I can more than agree to the "Less Skill" part... Yet High risk would be a little bit of an overstatement unless you're running a 4vig build then I guess it's correct... Mostly I've seen people miss parries get smacked in the face and still run on with the fight like nothing happent... I really hate when people say "Parrying takes skill" It just really doesn't... It's equal to timing your R1 estoc spams. ^^ Thanks for contributing to the post :3

Parrying imo just means you have to be more careful and aware of how you attack. You can't just R1 someone to death and the offense has to be more thought out and mixed up. I think when 2 people are decent at parrying the combat is much different than when 2 people aren't. I use the lucerne and almost all of it's attacks can be parried minus the weapon art so I have to be reeeaaaallly careful. If I make a mistake and get parried that's on me.

You've got a fair point there... I just find the Mixed up duels aka Overly complicated duels to be too much of a bother to be honest... It really just ruins my casual fun with the duelists... But I guess you're right... It's our fault... for getting parried... Yet It's still annoying as F.

Tip for dealing with dumb parry spammers (almost anyone who starts a duel with a Caestus out frankly in my book). Unfortunately clever parry spammers will probably learn in time...

1) Choose your weapon: Get a fast weapon, basically any straight sword works well. It just has to be faster than the fastest recovery time parry tool (I believe this is Caestus atm).

2) Mind Games: Act really agressive, without actually putting yourself at risk. Spam R1 outside of range, dash about, make them think you are a fool.

3) Patience: Rush in just like before and simply wait, the parry will come. When it does, simply wait for half a second then punish with two attacks. Repeat until parry spammer is deceased.

Even if they figure it out after a couple of times, its a good chunk of free damage to start the duel off with :)

Wonderful Tricks! I gotta hand it to ya... It makes me proud to see a player make up tactics instead of bitching over the problem (Me essentially) Really makes my day ^^

Another thing is if you're using a big enough weapon you can two hand it and they cannot parry you unless you use a running attack or rolling attack. Was running a Guts build earlier and was rarely two handing my weapon (Avelyn makes people less likely to spam) and some guy pulled out a caestus and ran right up to me. Two handed and watched him try to parry me like 4 times before dying
