Biography: Francis Underwood hails from a smaller town outside of Savannah, Georgia. Having grown up on his family's well known plantation, the "Underwood Plantation", his entirely young life was engulfed by state politicians and men from the Army. His father, Hughes Underwood, was a veteran of the Revolution War and had a well known reputation as an officer. Oddly his mother was from a wealthy Tory family from downtown Savannah. Through connections, Underwood was able to attend and graduate from Westpoint Military Academy in his early twenties. He served several years as a Captain in the 1st Infantry Regiment, and lead the regiment on several outpost in the west. After his service, he tried from enlistment, and left the Army life. He decided to run his now handed down family plantation and pursue a career as a politician. His first position was Governor of Georgia. After serving the seat for several years, he was encouraged to run for Senator and was elected twice to the position.

At the age of just 14, he was thrusted unto a short-lived yet highly influential military career due the Battle of New Orleans in the War of 1812. He was commissioned as a drummer boy, yet took up a rifle anyway after witnessing the British menace burning his home to the ground. He has sun held a hatred for the British, and has advocated the United States be a jingoistic and aggressive power in liberating many of Britain's colonies. After the War of 1812, which Claiborne calls the "Second American War for Independence", he served in the state militia before resigning his post as captain in 1825 to pursue a congressional career. He ran for the House of Representatives and won, he and his name having renown and respect in the city of New Orleans, which he represented directly in Congress. Recently, he resigned his office as Representative in 1834 in order to run in a senatorial election, which he won easily and now serves as a United States Senator from his relatively young home state of Louisiana.

Claiborne's term in office as representative gained him fame for his reformist beliefs, and more socially liberal attitudes. Alexander is extremely ambitious, as well as loyal to his state and country. His opinions on slavery aren't clear, as his mother, a devout Catholic, raised him to oppose the institution, despite his maternal grandfather being a plantation owner and slave master, albeit a benevolent one.
