The first trailer for Medieval 3 has been released. Total War is returning to the strengths that made the series great in the past. Medieval once again shows why it is the flagship of the series – the developers have clearly put a lot of heart into it.

However, if the game doesn’t perform well – due to bugs or other issues – the gameplay must not ruin the player experience. The sound should even be better than in the previous title. Overall, in my opinion, the game feels like the last-ditch effort to preserve the Total War brand, similar to what the Warhammer series managed to do.

Medieval remains the flagship – are the developers really trying to take it even further? I’m curious. And the multiplayer? That will be even more exciting – with or without rankings.

There is, however, hope for new possibilities and a new era. For now, it’s just an attempt to present the game in a medieval setting – everything else remains speculation.

There were so many other possibilities: new eras or settings could have been explored. Instead, the focus is again on the medieval period. Empire or Napoleon: Total War have almost been forgotten. New ideas and different experiments would have been exciting for the series.

Instead of releasing really good games like Medival 2, they're more interested in selling DC and making money by getting stuck into it.
