but a game I really enjoyed, was a game called Ground Control, its a strategy game without base building, without resource aquiring (was change in ground control 2 sadly) where you were placed in a mission with the limited resources you arranged ahead, and you had to tacticlly plan and make use of those to the max, it had a lot things like attacking tanks from the back deals more damage, high ground, shadows, and all sort of stuff (at advanced diffculty it had friendly fire) that game was one of my favorite, and a game I feel didn't recieve the attention it deserved.
another 2 I'll mention, are dungeon keeper 2, which i loved a lot, and heroes of might and magic 3, which I've been playing for 15 years, and I still play to this day
In terms of games that are their own enclosed experience without the social aspect; i would have to say that Portal is up there as one of my favorites. Clever puzzles that don't outstay their welcome and the dark humor of GLaDOS made Portal an amazing experience.
Starfox 64 was my first real experience with playing games besides handhelds like pokemon, and i still consider it to be one of my favorites.
Bulletstorm deserves an honorable mention as a shameless power fantasy shooter. Fallout 1 is incredible. TES: Oblivion sucked up a large amount of my time as well. The Witcher's story is very enthralling. The Mass Effect series definitely did some things right also. Bioshock 1 needs to be played by everyone who enjoys action rpgs. Conker's Bad Fur Day is a witty and delectable dance with crude humor.
If I am to give insight on what shaped me as a "human" I have to say Myst, due to the loneliness and lack of answers it initially presents you. Using books as magical passage ways into different lands you're able to piece together a story by collecting pages torn from prison books of the main library on the Myst island. There are no monsters or enemies, just puzzles you have to solve.
Another very important game to my development is Grim Fandango (another adventure game). In it you control Manny Calavera, a travel agent of the dead world in a noir mystery that involves friendship, a very interesting concept on death and moving on.
Now, for a game that shaped my expectations on games I have to mention MDK, a third/first person shooter released in 1997. Even with the limitations of computer games back then, this game was able to give a fluid and quirky adventure to save the Earth.
In an ever changing world of games, trying to answer what is the best game I ever played is a hard challenge, one that sometimes I ask myself.
A close second and third favourite games are BOI: Rebirth, and Vagante. Everyone here im sure knows rebirth, but Vagante is awesome! Vagante is a platformer RPG game much like splunkey. It has many mechanics simaler to splunkey, but also a lot more RPG mechanics. Such as leveling up, new equipment, weapons, and an inventory! overall, its one of my favourite games. SOOOOOOOOOOOO MUUUCH REPLAYABIITY!!!!!!!!
But I'm surprised DOOM or Frankenwolf(or whatever its called) didn't make this list yet. First PC game I ever touched was DOOM and my grandpa let me play with cheat codes. My grandpa also introduced me to my first PC multiplayer experience through the Delta Force games. Huge maps and tons of fun. Honestly I owe my passion for pc games to my grandpa and consoles to my big brother.
Then came Animal Crossing and Call of Duty on the GameCube, countless hours spent on both (Don't get me started on Animal Crossing!), and graduating to Halo on the Xbox. At the time Halo was the greatest shooter I'd ever played next to Counter Strike and Half-Life (100% agree with Gamma, too).
I could go on and on.... we all could, I'm sure. Heck, I don't know where to start on Modern Games!
I always say my favortie series of games is a tie between Mass Effect, and Bioshock. I loved playing muiltiplayer Supper Smash brothers and Mario Cart, on any conclue (N64- Wii), and even most of you know me through my NEW favorite Sword of the Stars: The Pit, but non can reach the capasity that my all time favorite game hit....
Runescape has to me my favorite game. I loved to, not neccisarily play the game, but experiance the comunity behind it and be with my friends while I play. One of the best parts is it never took much more that 50% of your concentration to play, so some of my best memories are watching Adult Swim at 1am on the weekend and laughing with my friends who were watching the same show while messing around on the game. Now-a-days it has a lasting effect on my menality when I find games to play, because I still want to find that game I can play while I wach something on the side.
Diablo 2 :D
Very close to being best of all time for me are WoW, Fallout-2, Thief 1 and 2.
1 Apple Trek. On my dad's Apple 2 with 5inch floppies
2 The Adventure Game. On my mate's Atari console
3 X-wing. First 3D simulator
4 Doom. Pizza, weed, Doom, sleep, repeat
5 Oblivion. First RPG sandbox
6 Witcher 3. Just beautiful!
