its a genius game with good grafiks despite the fakt that it came out 2007
But can be a bit too much if you are new ,to the Paradox games, if you want to manage all the stuff(you can let the IA do the work) . In that style you also can found Crusader Kings 2 or Europa Universalis IV are more noob friendly than Victoria 2 or older titles of Paradox.
Hearts of Iron 3 Its a game that has a lot of depth once you start controlling politics, economics and military. In the other hand is not expensive and can do the work.
The main difference whit total War series that total war is more tactics in battle management and HoI 3 is more strategic. In other words you can't control the battle apart from sending more divisions, engaging whit air support, sending a tank division or if you are in retreat making a 2on line behind an trying to close the gap whit a counteroffensive.
