If one show creeps you out and triggers fear as a response then simply drop it, take a break, and try a different series. Some say the best way to conquer fear is to go out and face it. However, I'm not an expert psychologist so I don't exactly know how effective this method is. ;p
One aspect of anime that may factor into your fear of anime may be the rather huge difference between American culture and Japanese culture. Although anime is extremely popular outside of Japan, anime is still very much produced with only the Japanese people in mind (well for the most part). Although this is something you really can't fix, it's just a matter of understanding another's culture. Which can be done with time, through, well... just watching anime.
Just remember not to force yourself into a medium, forcing yourself to like something will most often lead you to end up hating that one thing you tried so hard to like.
I wish you all the best,
Valentine.
P.S. If I find the time later, I will surely recommend you some anime to start with. I'll try to find something relaxing, maybe sad, maybe funny, something that will ease you into conquering your fear.
One thing that I am curious about though is if you're afraid of anime, how come you are interested in anime culture and have a anime avatar? Am I right to understand that it's the animation, not the actual drawings?
I'm not you but if I were you I would definitively look up happy ending anime that lasts about 12 episodes and kind of get into those. That way, you will be exposed to the lighter side of anime rather than the dark grim side like attack on titan or death note. Though, I'm a bit different, whenever I encounter something that I fear, I tackle it head-on. A few months ago I came across a snake, didn't realize that I was kind of afraid of them, but when it got caught in something in the yard, i helped it and was literally touching the snake and cutting things around its face so it could live. In those regards I'm sure that if I were in your shoes I'd watch the grimmest kind of anime just to get over my fear but everyone is different. That's why I said, start with happy anime and work your way from there. Romance anime are really enjoyable :)
Honestly, I reckon if you just watch anime, that would be the fastest way to recover. I had a fear of bees for ages but when I was stung by one, I realised it wasn't as bad as I had thought it was. Maybe it would work similar to that.
Personally, I always tell people they should start with miyazaki movies, then go from there if it seems like something they can be interested in.
