Different implementation, various environment. Source code has bugs.
Only FreeDOS; only DOOM 2!
Algorithm != Implementation. That's all that I wanna say.
The only downside to offering out the ability for people to use 3rd-party apps is people requesting technical support for it if they do not understand how to set it up properly. Using an individual app for each place that uses mobile authentication is annoying, and people should be given a choice to use their own authenticator app if they want.
Microsoft Authenticator = Google Authenticator for Windows Phone :)
