Evil Invaders
(Thrash / Speed)

Belgium

Albums:
  • Pulses of Pleasure (2015)
  • Feed Me Violence (2017)
  • Shattering Reflection (2022)
Want some fast paced old school thrash with enough shouting and shrieking to properly blow out your speakers? This modern love letter to classics like Exodus, Agent Steel, and of course Razor, blends neck breaking speeds with a mountain of melody with a pretty damn quality consistency from one album to the next. Their live act is supposed to be extremely entertaining too, which their 2018 Live in Antwerp album reinforces sound-wise at least. They're actively touring, so go check 'em out!

Demon ♥♥♥♥♥
(Trad / Heavy)

USA

Albums:
  • Hellfriends (2016)
  • Master of the Games (2024)

Going to a band inspired by acts slightly further back in time now, Demon ♥♥♥♥♥ goes more towards early Mercyful Fate and Angel Witch. The production values on their first full album are a little.... potato-y, though that's not uncommon for folks trying to fit a certain era. The songs themselves kick butt though, and the production on last year's Master of the Games takes a few positive steps in the right direction for a more clear yet still "ripped off my uncle's old cassette tape" hints of fog. Vocals may be slightly higher in tone than Fates Warning which may scare some folks off, but if that's your cup of tea then you should absolutely click the stuff below.

Week 48
Octoploid

(Melodic Progressive Death Metal)

Finland

Albums:
  • Beyond the Aeons (2024)

Octoploid is a finnish quartet that plays, for a lack of a better term, some melodic progressive death metal. I say lack of a better term because their sound gets all over the place, death metal is the core of the whole thing, but the prog side won't be denied, and will make the songs leave the realm of melodeath entirely at times towards god knows what, there's bits of surf rock, prog rock, black metal, psychedelic, I swear there was a moment that kinda sounded like Santana. The band was created by one of Amorphis' founding members, Olli-Pekka Laine, and their keyboardist Kim Rantala is also an ex-member, so some of the Amorphis sound ends up seeping into some of the songs too, both their recent and more classic sound, there's some pretty neat Thousand Lakes/Elegy vibes at times. But yeah, pretty cool album, if you're into proggy melodeath mixed with whatever else, and/or you're an Amorphis fan, might be worth giving Octoploid a listen.

King Leoric

(Power/Heavy Metal)

Germany

Albums:
  • Piece of Past (2002)
  • Thunderforce (2005)
  • Lingua Regis (2013)

Taking their name from the homonymous character from Diablo, King Leoric plays some good power metal songs about generic fantasy and, you guessed it, Diablo. Despite being from Germany, their style is very much old-school USPM, and their debut's cover directly tells you which bands served as direct influence for King Leoric's sound. For a small independent band, their work is pretty alright, and it looks like despite their last album being a decade old, they're still active and touring, which is pretty neat. All in all, King Leoric makes for a cool listen if you're an 80s' USPM fan and have some spare time.

What's up everyone?! I don't know why I only just thought to look for a group of people who also like good music haha. If anyone wants to talk music or play some games feel free to add me currently playing a lot of BF6 but I'm usually into anything co-op focused!
