About AV software saying Hoxhud is a Trojan/Virus
Some AV softwares detect certain codes in .dll files as a generic trojan, which Hoxhud's PD2APIDLL1.dll file happens to have one of these.

The thing is, THIS IS A FALSE POSITIVE!

There is a reason why only SEVEN out of 50 AV softwares detect it as a 'trojan.'[www.virustotal.com]
(Note, as a private tester, the PD2APIDLL1.dll is different than the public version, which could lead to some virus softwares not scanning for the same bit of code. However, the public version is also a false positive, simple as that.)

Please also note how six of these seven say the same thing: Gen:Trojan.Heur.LP.jz4aaKPKZKpi
Gen=Generic
You'd think there would be more variation or explanation if it WAS a virus.

If you continue to not believe it doesn't have ANY malware, every user who has used it, can testify to this.

If you can't take their word, take Overkill's, if, for some reason, you did not know, is the company that MADE the game. Look up at the group icon and read the banner: OVERKILL APPROVES!

So, would the developers of the game really sponsor a product that has a virus? Ask yourself that.

If your AV software happens to pick it up as a Trojan, simply use the manual installer and add an exception to IPHLPAPI.dll, PD2APIDLL1.dll, and the Hoxhud folder.

EDIT! Use this to add exceptions! Credit to -Wonderbolt- Spitfire for this![pastebin.com]

This is genius, i'm so glad someone has finally started a thread explaining rather than asking... but, the problem is that NO ONE SEARCHES THE FORUMS FOR THIER PROBLEM BEFORE POSTING.
^ That's why there are so many of those posts, not because they don't believe the answers they find when they search, but BECAUSE THEY NEVER SEARCH!!!

This is a response to the "Virus" thread, specifically the post were Oli asks for volunteers to explain this. He thinks that a non-moderator saying it will have less of an obvious bias.

If your AV is preventing you from installing, then yes. However, if it is not, then install normally, then add an exception to the Hoxhud files.

Hurrah! I contributed to the community!

But yeah, this hasn't set off WindowsDefender, MBAM, ADWCleaner or any other stuff I run during my weekly check.

Has the file been submitted to antivirus companies for false positive detection?

It says Mcafee approves it, yet my mcafee which is up-to-date just doesn't want to work with the PD2APIDLL1.dll... Sometimes i am lucky and i install it and it continues to work for 2-3 days... then suddenly changes it's mind and quarantines it.
Virus Total Scan [www.virustotal.com]

I did a re-scan just to test it for myself and today its 15/53 which is weird as why would it randomy change when it was confirmed as okay a day before?

It's annoying, it was fine today for about half of the day, reboot my pc and it acts like it's never seen the file before and instantly removes it.

I submitted this to F-Secure and at least they confirmed that it's false positive and are publishing a DB with a fix

One thing I forgot to mention is that I am a private tester, so my .dll files were scanned, which could lead to a bit of confusion. However, if possible, you should do what Bashar Miles did, and send it into whatever company your AV is from, if it's picking it up as a Trojan or whatever, to confirm the false positive.
oh Jul 20, 2014 @ 8:31pm
Even with my anti virus turned off the file just keeps disappearing...
