unexpected good anime

I just wanted to know what anime you guys/girls have watched that you didn't expect to like. And which anime hooked you right from the start. For me I'd have to say Wolf's Rain, The Big O, Neon Genesis Evangelion, Serial Experiments Lain, and the Monogatari series all hooked me from the start. As for the unexpected anime the Maria-sama ga Miteru ( Maria Watches Over Us) series, H2O: Footprints in the Sand, and the Full Metal Panic! series, plus some others but the list would be long. I'm a guy but I don't just watch action/harem anime. Over my years of watching anime I've come to love all types.

I never expected to like Clannad at the beginning.......It was too late when I finished due to all the tears shed T_T

I like Watamote, it's quite a bit funnier than I expected and can be rather relatable at times.

Magical girls i think its called. Its something like sailor moon. Steinsgate was good too only after the first 6 agonizing episodes.

Eve no jikan or time of eve
only 6 episodes but a great 6 episodes, nice unique artstyle, good story and nice character disign
for 6 episodes its an unexpected amaizing anime.

Inazuma Eleven, I first thought it to be a regular childish show (first saw it in Dutch on TV). A friend of mine recommended anime to me, which I started off with Fairy Tail (I've seen other animes in Dutch, like pokemon, yu-gi-oh etc.) But yeah I started watching Inazuma Eleven in Japanese because I didn't want to wait for the next episodes, and damn I loved it, the friendship message, the never give up things. It was all super cool. I loved it. I don't even like football (soccer) IRL
