Yes, I would never have chosen Arch to build Steam OS.

Steam OS is actually Pika OS. :)
You can bomb it and it won't break.

Oh boy. I hated PikaOS. It looked and run great... while it worked. Then broke itself with an upgrade. Happened to me twice in quick succession so I gave up on it. They actually managed to make debian less reliable lmao.

I would never recommend VOID to a beginner. Mostly because it's a niche distro with limited support. So, sometimes you have to get creative to get specific softwares installed and running. Unless all they do is browse the web and things like that I wouldn't recommend Void to somebody who doesn't know linux. :)

Keep in mind that, from what I read, Valve are going for an immutable system based on Arch. That alone cuts a lot of issues Arch has at knee level. I'm fairly sure it will be good. I have my doubt on it being "great" but it's going to be quite good, especially for the average joe.

Then you start wondering how you can break it.

SteamOS started out with Debian.
Then it ended up on closed-source hardware with Arch and SteamDeck.
Now who knows what will happen with the release.

Anyway, for now I've always used full AMD machines.
The only Nvidia is a 2070 Super, based on extensive testing done on the 2000 series, which hasn't been repeated.

We'll see how everything performs on the first machines with all-Chinese hardware.

The "first machines with all chinese hardware" has already come out, like a while ago. GN reviewed both CPUs and GPUs out of china.
Yes but I don't have one at home yet

There is no way I'll support that kind of development from China personally. But, I'm definately curious to see it. Think im gonna youtube that.
Let's say that Amd and Intel are constrained and follow Windows, Linux, in the minority, adapts, but on hardware dedicated to Linux things could evolve rapidly.

Artificial intelligences are starting to develop hardware on their own, but I don't know for which operating system they'll eventually develop... maybe one written entirely by artificial intelligences.

Look, I love Linux with all my heart. But, China is already a powerful country on the economic stage. Having them take over major CPU manufacturer on top of it is just insane. China ain't doing this for you to have a good gaming rig or whatnot. They want to develop their inhouse technology because they know they are going to get sanctioned up the wazoo when it comes to technology if they do something stupid. I have nothing against a country trying to make itself more independant. That alone is not the problem. I just don't trust China in particular to use that independance in a way that won't backfire on us if we buy into it.

And im being extremely generous here. Hell, it's almost already done.

If we really want to exaggerate, in what area is China not superior in something today?

Exaggerate? China is learning from Russia's blunders. Don't blind yourself to it. By developping their own platform. They can't be put a leash by cutting off the supply of electronic part that are, let me remind you, a part of almost every single modern weapon system that is relevant for the kind of war we are seeing nowadays. That's the goal. China is smart enough to let Russia do all these blunders almost uninterrupted because they profit from observing the situation and are actually moving to not put themselves in such a position.
