Where do I even begin? I'm going to list some problems PMR currently has and then explain why it's an issue.

For whatever reason, PMR has a throttle model that is hands down the worst that I've ever seen or felt in a racing game, period. Sim, arcade or otherwise. Over half of your throttle range is effectively useless, because to simply maintain your speed even at low speed in first gear, you need 50% throttle, and to start gaining speed you need 60-75% throttle depending on the car.

Why is this an issue? Because it is nearly impossible to have proper throttle control when your usable throttle range is tiny. This isn't even an argument about realism. From a gameplay perspective, every single car that I've tried has been frustrating because it's very easy to over or undershoot the amount of throttle you need to balance the car. Most other games use a linear throttle model which itself is also not realistic, but it's much more drivable than a throttle model that feels like it has an exponential curve and does nothing below 50%. Even driving games that are not meant to be simulators whatsoever don't ♥♥♥♥ up the throttle this badly

The UI may have a slick look to it, but at least for me the more I used it, the more convoluted it felt. I personally started to have an issue with the UI and the functionality of it when I realised that FOV needs to be set for each car individually. This is the first game I've seen where your FOV setting is not global - of course, I would expect seating position to be done per-car of course, but FOV should be a constant because it's how you perceive the track and the world around you. There is a "global" FOV setting somewhere in the menus, but that one does nothing because the per-car FOV overrides it.

All the important FFB settings are also done on a per-car basis and they are considered part of the car setup. On paper this is a good thing, it gives you options. However, all the cars have the same default FFB values in the car setup, and all of the cars I've tried have TERRIBLE FFB which means that you have to spend your time "fixing" the FFB for every single car you want to drive so you have FFB that's even usable, and then save a setup for it, and then load that setup every time you drive it (I'll talk more about FFB later)

When you sign up for online races, if you want to unregister for any reason it is not clear how you do so. Alternatively, if you back out of the registration screen so that you can start practicing in single player (because there are no practice lobbies or practice modes), you will find that backing out of the screen counting down to race start automatically unregisters you for the race even though there's nothing in the menu that explicitly communicates this.

The reason why these things are an issue should be self explanatory.

The FFB in quite a few cars that I've tried seemingly all have the same issue of the middle feeling completely empty and in general just feeling very light and vague. If you adjust the FFB, at least with what I've been able to achieve, it still isn't the best as it feels like there's just weight and no real information on tyre slip or weight transfer.

The game seems to reward what I'm going to call "tactically clumsy" driving, and I will use the MX5 as an example of this. Seemingly the best way to drive the MX5 is to put the brake bias back a few clicks, stamp hard on the brakes in every braking zone to get the rears to start locking slightly, ride out the oversteer that comes from it and slam the throttle on every corner exit (because of the awful throttle response mentioned earlier). Same thing goes for the Aston GT3. Same for the Aston GTE. Same for the Porsche Cup. Most of the cars I've tried, you have to drive like you're a tap dancer with the pedals because the more you try to drive with finesse, the less the car responds to you (or in the Porsche Cup's case, the more it wanted to try and kill me on every corner). It's like there's not much weight transfer you can do to get the cars to rotate, so you have to force that rotation to happen.

The BMW M3 GTR and Mercury GTO required some finesse with the brakes because of no ABS but I still didn't quite like how these cars drove even though people say the older GT cars drive better. They're in the realm of being okay, but far from "benchmark handling".

This style of driving might be fun, but if you're marketing a game as having revolutionary physics, or saying that it's better than AC, then that is what people will expect. You can't just advertise one thing, and then deliver another. I want to know who was on the Factory Driver Program that tested the cars in PMR, because you can't tell me that "every car has been painstaking tested and approved by brand partners and hundreds of the world's top real life and sim racing pros", when the way to drive fast is to absolutely abuse slip angle to an almost comical level, and slam the throttle on every exit because of the bad throttle response.

My own experience of the game with game stability has not been great. In offline races, I have struggled to complete a race both in career mode and in race weekend mode, because the game frequently crashes after 10-15 minutes of racing and sometimes even before I reach turn 1. I have also experienced crashes online. I have a 5800x3D CPU and a 6900XT GPU. I have spoken to a couple of other people who also have AMD RX 6000 series GPUs who seemingly are experiencing the same thing and there's also a tweet from someone tagging Ian Bell saying they are experiencing constant crashes on an AMD GPU. A sample size of about 5 people including myself is not enough to conclusively say that AMD GPUs will definitively struggle with PMR, but it's definitely something that should be looked at. If you're on an AMD GPU I would avoid this game even if you try to source a cheap game key as the game is just literally unplayable on AMD hardware at the moment.

Hilariously, I was able to soft-lock myself in the game's offline career mode, because the game kept crashing and I had to keep paying the entry fee over and over again. Even if I skip practice and skip quali to try and complete the race as quickly as possible, the game will crash before I'm able to complete the race despite driving a second faster (or more) than 100% AI per lap

This section will be short and sweet - PMR at best only looks marginally better than Project Cars 2 (and I'm being extremely generous here) and yet runs way worse. On a single 1080p screen, I get anywhere between 80-95fps when driving on my own and 50-70fps when driving with other cars. These are playable framerates, but bear in mind my system can run triple 1080p screens with 90fps minimum on literally any other sim. There's no triple or VR support because the game probably can't handle the performance hit.

People who are aggressively defending this game either can't drive or are trying to justify a bad £53 or £79 purchase. Even after the 1.5 patch this still looks and feels like an early access release that should cost no more than £20.

Do yourself a favour and buy Automobilista 2. It's what this game wanted to be a better version of but instead, became a really bad Temu version of it.

Don't buy this game. Wait and see IF the studio is still actually around next year updating the game.

They just announced layoffs the day I'm writing this. They've been radio silent since their last 'update' and now we know why. Too busy laying off hard working people who were being ground up and spat out by Ian Bell.

This game is marketted and sold as a fully priced AAA game but it's alpha in quality. It has a lot of issues and was released in this state regardless. I can only assume the huge number of refunds have pulled the bottom out of this team now.

Me personally, I really like this game. It reminds me project cars 2, which controversially was one of my favourite racing games. Not because it was the most realistic game ever made, but because it conveyed a real sense of speed and panic when driving the cars.

I am not a real racer, I will probably never be a real racer and never get to drive a real dodge viper, or ferrari f40 or (insert your favourite car), so being able to play a game that makes me feel what it might be like to drive one of those beasts, feel that rush, that panic of sitting on a ridiculous volume of horsepower as your barrel into a corner is a win for me.

Games like Assetto Corsa are 'more realistic' and I enjoy that game as well, but one thing the 'project' series has always got right in my eyes is that sheer sense of speed and force from your car, from the subtle camera look to the apex, the car wobble, they've always made me feel like i'm barely in control of all that raw power while simultaneously having full control.

On launch, this particular title was a nightmare, physics were broken, constant crashing, poor framerate etc etc, but since the last patch, the cars feel better, the games only crashed once and the framerate sits at a solid 70-80fps with it mostly maxed, even with all the ai cars turned on AND it looks nicer!

whatever the problem was with the graphics on day one (pretty terrible all round) seems to have been fixed and now the game has some truly beautiful visuals. It still has it's moments where textures might not load right or?, but when it all clicks, it looks fantastic.

I've mostly been setting up random races to get a feel for the different cars and different weathers etc, but what little i have dabbled in with the career seems fine. I like the idea of being able to set your own parameters to play within, like starting from the bottom with no money, or being a mega rich race team or being a living billboard... it's a nice idea and I look forward to playing around with the different options.

Probably my biggest gripe at the moment is the penalty system, sometimes it makes perfect sense and others it's way too aggressive and you'll find yourself being shunted slightly by the AI or trying to regain control from a spin, your tire barely off the track and suddenly you are penalised for it. It doesn't happen all the time, but it happens enough to be annoying and it definitely needs some tweaking.

I am running this on a 7700x, 32gb ram, m.2 drive and a 9070xt at 1440 ultrawide with a Moza R5 bundle and I'm having a blast!

PMR is a good game, a good game that definitely needs some patches. Is it the most realistic racer out there? no (and probably shouldn't have been marketed that way tbh as that's likely hurt the game) but is it fun? Yes. When everything falls into place it can provide some really intense racing experiences with lots of cars and lots of tracks to cause chaos on.
