The game's pretty fun, and I can say that with 100+ hours spent on the open source version, and 80ish on Steam.
The mix between RTS and building a factory is a really good combo which makes it fun and challenging to play. The two different campaigns, Serpullo and Erekir, have a lot of core differences with Serpulo being the most challenging, but the one with the most content. Erekir is a little more forgiving since you can trial and error your way out of some problems, while Serpulo sectors ask for more detailed plans if you want to keep that sector for the long run instead of capturing and moving on to the next.
The unit system can be a bit confusing at times, like the "Stance: Patrol path" mode which is something I remember seeing once and never being able to use, but it becomes more natural as you play more and more often. The units have different purposes and have 3 types: Ground, Air, and Water. Water is only a unit type in Serpulo, but it's integrated very nicely :D
The factories are well balanced and the setups you can do to maximize your output, or chain factories so you'll make more of a resource in a single conveyor line, are quite complicated if theyre too big, but you can do LOTS of nice builds. The mods you can get are quite nice, although some mods are required to keep up with the versions that release on steam, since older versions risk developing bugs (Looking at you Extra Utilities and your boolean BackMove error.), but there are options. Some of the mods add on to the main game, others make campaigns of their own like Asthosus, others change the music, and others add some Quality of Life features, like Too Many Items which displays all(*) recipes for each item that's coded in, be it for Erekir or Serpulo. (*Some mods like Extra Utilities have have factories that aren't displayed in there)

TLDR: Game is fun, can be challenging the further you go, but there are ways to work around it, you can add a music mod if the songs are a little too grim for you, and if you get too stuck you can check out if a mod can help you with the game.
If you want to try the game, Anuken has an itch.io version that isn't paid for, and is only a few versions behind the steam and GitHub releases.
Note: I believe for mods you need to enable the V8 beta in steam.
